Mixing layered images to represent the Brazilian lifestyle in a children's exhibition
MixMax Brasil is an exhibition for children aged 6 to 13 years in the Tropenmuseum Junior. This do!-exhibition focuses on the mix-culture in the northeastern Pernambuco region of Brazil.
The campaign is a composite image from several photos and materials such as Cordel booklets (woodcuts), murals and a football shirt. On top of this composite image lays a white sheet of paper whith cut-out flipflops - the national footwear - and text.
The image is alienating: do I look at flipflops on which a face is printed, or do I look through the paper to the underlying image? This is exactly what happens at the exhibition: nothing is what it seems, mix is what it is!
